What is an isothermal freezer?

An isothermal freezer is a cryogenic freezer in which the liquid nitrogen is not held in the storage area itself, but in a patented jacket within the wall of the freezer. As a result, your samples are stored completely dry, without any direct contact with liquid nitrogen. The nitrogen layer in the wall blankets the storage area and delivers a temperature uniformity that is not achievable with a traditional liquid nitrogen freezer, with an average storage temperature around -190°C.

This contactless storage offers three key advantages over classic storage in liquid nitrogen:

• Reduced cross-contamination: with no liquid nitrogen in the storage area, the risk of viral, bacterial and fungal pathogens transferring between samples is greatly reduced.
• Increased safety: no contact with or splashing of liquid nitrogen, and no risk of nitrogen seeping into cryovials that can expand and explode on re-warming.
• More storage space: because there is no need for liquid nitrogen at the bottom of the chamber, the full storage area remains usable.

The isothermal freezer range

Poly Temp supplies the complete Custom Biogenic Systems isothermal freezer programme, in two configurations and multiple capacities. Below you will find what each configuration is used for.

V-Series isothermal freezers: the standard configuration with a wide lid opening, so you can see all of your racks at once and quickly retrieve the one you need. The short retrieval time minimises exposure to ambient temperatures and keeps the storage temperature stable. Available in capacities from 30 to 140 litres of LN2, with storage for up to 46,500 cryovials (2 ml).

Carousel isothermal freezers: designed for spaces with limited ceiling height. The rotating carousel and rectangular lid opening give quick, easy access to the rack you need without having to move other racks. Faster access means less sample exposure and lower nitrogen consumption.

All models are equipped with a reliable 2301 controller with dual temperature display and autofill. Optionally they can be fitted with wireless monitoring for 24/7 remote performance tracking.
