Poly Temp Scientific achieves ISO 9001 for installation and maintenance

A service engineer visiting your site does more than get a piece of equipment running again. He works to procedures that are written down and records what he has done, so you can fall back on it later. Since 6 August 2026 that way of working has been independently assessed: Control Union Certifications B.V. has certified our quality management system to NEN-EN-ISO 9001:2015, for the installation and maintenance of laboratory equipment. It is our first certification to this standard, and it confirms from the outside what our engineers have been doing for over forty years.

Exactly the work that happens at your site

The certificate covers installation and maintenance. That is deliberate, because that is where you see us: the engineer who installs your ULT freezer, the service visit to your centrifuge, the annual check of your flow cabinet. It is that part of our service that has now been measured against an international standard and found sound.

For you that means something concrete. For every installation and every service visit, it is recorded what was done, when and by whom. The measuring instruments our engineers work with are themselves kept under control, because a measurement is worth no more than the instrument it was taken with. If a question about the history of a device comes up two years later, during your own audit, the record is still there.

What goes wrong is part of the standard too. A fault that is not resolved in one visit stays on record until it is, and is examined for its cause. That sometimes leads to a change in the maintenance plan for a device, and that is exactly the intention.

Independently established, and it stays that way

The assessment went further than the engineer’s work alone. The auditor looked at the whole route around it: how a job comes in, is planned, carried out, delivered and recorded, and how we evaluate and adjust our own way of working when that is needed. Only one part of the standard does not apply, namely design and development, because we do not design equipment ourselves.

The certificate was issued under accreditation RvA C 499. That means the Dutch Accreditation Council assesses whether Control Union carries out this work competently and independently. So someone is watching the inspector as well.

The certificate runs through 5 August 2029 and is periodically audited during that period by independent auditors. Certification is therefore not a one-off event but a commitment that has to be met again and again. That is what we value most about it: it keeps the way of working sharp, including on the days when no auditor is watching.

On top of what was already in place

ISO 9001 joins a number of things that were already there. Poly Temp Scientific is STEK certified for working with refrigerants, is a recognised training company and is a member of FHI, the Farma Alliantie and VCCN. Each covers its own ground: the competence of our engineers, the training of new specialists, and the sharing of knowledge across the sector.

What was still missing alongside them was an independent assessment of everything around it. That is precisely what ISO 9001 does, and with it the set is complete.

Useful for your supplier file

If you work at a hospital, university or pharmaceutical company, you will know the supplier assessment that has to be completed periodically. For installation and maintenance you can now enter four details: the standard NEN-EN-ISO 9001:2015, certificate number 880797.ISO9001.2026, the scope and the expiry date. The scope reads on the certificate, in Dutch: “Installatie en onderhoud van laboratorium apparatuur.” The certificate was issued under accreditation, so the assessment becomes demonstrable rather than plausible.
