Flow cabinet for laboratories

A flow cabinet is a laboratory enclosure that protects your product, your staff, or both against contamination. Therefore, a filtered laminar airflow uses HEPA filtration to remove all particles and micro-organisms from the workspace. In addition, a flow cabinet is also called a laminar flow cabinet, LAF cabinet, or clean bench. Laminar flow cabinet: crossflow and downflow

A laminar flow cabinet protects only your product, not the operator. Therefore, we distinguish two airflow directions. A crossflow cabinet moves the air horizontally from back to front across the worktop. A downflow cabinet directs the air vertically from top to bottom.

As a result, downflow offers better ergonomics and less turbulence above the work surface. Thus, this type suits sterile work such as media preparation, cell culture, and plant tissue culture. In addition, a laminar flow cabinet is also called a LAF cabinet or clean bench.

Biosafety cabinet class 2A and 2B

A biosafety cabinet protects both your product and the operator. Therefore, this type works with vertical airflow and HEPA filtration. A class 2A cabinet recirculates roughly 70% of the air. A class 2B cabinet, however, exhausts all air outside through a triple-filter system. As a result, class 2B is essential for cytotoxic substances, volatile chemicals, and radioactive isotopes.
