Class I safety cabinet: protecting operator and environment

A Class I safety cabinet is a microbiological safety cabinet that shields the user and the laboratory room from the material being processed. Air enters through the front opening at an inflow of 0.7 m/s, adjustable between 0.7 and 1.0 m/s, and is then filtered by an H14 exhaust filter before leaving the cabinet. Any aerosols are captured this way and the operator stays protected. The design complies with the EN 12469 standard for microbiological safety cabinets.

When to choose Class I?

Choose a Class I cabinet when you only need operator and environmental protection and the product itself does not have to stay sterile. Think of weighing and handling powders or substances where contamination of the sample is not a concern. If you also need product protection alongside operator protection, look at our biological safety cabinets (Class II). For applications that demand maximum containment, a Class III safety cabinet is the right solution.

Optional activated carbon filter

The Class I cabinet can be extended with an additional activated carbon filter. This filter captures odours and vapours and is useful when working with volatile substances that cause chemical as well as biological nuisance. The H14 exhaust filter remains responsible for capturing particles and aerosols; the activated carbon filter is a supplement to it.
