Which microplate washer fits your workflow?

The right microplate washer is primarily determined by plate format, the number of buffers required, any cell-washing application and whether the instrument must be integrated into an automated workflow. Standard Wellwash and Wellwash Versa share straightforward operation and low residual volumes but are designed for different use cases.

Routine ELISA

Wellwash

  • 96-well plates and strips
  • One wash buffer
  • 1 x 8 or 1 x 12 wash head
  • For recurring, similar protocols

Extended flexibility

Wellwash Versa

  • 96- and 384-well plates
  • Up to three buffer positions
  • Optional 2 x 8 cell wash head
  • USB and RS-232C automation

Reproducible microplate washing

An automated microplate washer reduces variation between users and protocols. Adjustable wash cycles, soak time, shaking speed, dispense height and aspiration parameters help remove unbound material consistently. Wellwash crosswise sweep aspiration limits the specified residual volume to below 2 µL and supports reliable assay results.

Both models feature a large colour display, graphical user interface, storage for up to 99 protocols, USB data transfer, non-pressurised bottles, liquid-level sensors, a plate sensor and an aerosol cover. Optional IQ, OQ and PQ documentation and service packages are available.

Selecting a microplate washer

For routine ELISA testing on 96-well plates with one buffer, standard Wellwash is generally sufficient. Choose Wellwash Versa when the process includes 384-well plates, multiple buffers, gentle washing of adherent cells or laboratory automation connectivity. Poly Temp can advise on the appropriate model, wash head, qualification documentation and service.

Frequently asked questions about microplate washers

What does a microplate washer do?

A microplate washer automates aspiration, dispensing, washing and shaking of microtitre plates or strips, for example in ELISA workflows.

When is 384-well support required?

384-well support is required when assays use this plate format. Within this range, only Wellwash Versa supports 384-well plates with the optional 1 x 16 wash head.

Which Wellwash supports cell washing?

Wellwash Versa can gently wash adherent cells with the optional 2 x 8 cell wash head. Standard Wellwash does not support this application.

Why is low residual volume important?

Low residual volume helps reduce background signal from liquid left in wells and supports consistent assay results.

Are qualification and maintenance available?

Yes. Optional IQ, OQ and PQ documentation and service packages are available. Poly Temp can advise on commissioning and maintenance.
