A centrifuge rotor largely determines the performance of your centrifuge: maximum RCF, capacity, ergonomics and suitability for specific applications all depend directly on the chosen rotor. Therefore, we offer a complete range of Thermo Scientific and Fiberlite rotors, perfectly matched to the Thermo Scientific X Series, S Series, C Series, BIOS, LYNX and Cryofuge centrifuges. All rotors combine reliability, safety and compatibility with the latest Auto-Lock rotor exchange technology, allowing you to switch rotors in just three seconds without tools.
Our centrifuge rotor collection is divided into three main categories: swing-out rotors, fixed-angle rotors and microplate rotors. In addition, we distinguish rotors based on application, such as blood processing, cell culture, molecular biology, clinical diagnostics and bioprocessing. As a result, you will always find a rotor that matches your samples, tubes and specific laboratory protocol. Furthermore, most rotors come with optional ClickSeal biocontainment lids, certified by Public Health England (Porton Down, UK) or TÜV NORD CERT, for safe processing of biohazardous samples such as blood products and pathogens.
Swing-out rotors swing to a horizontal position during centrifugation, allowing samples to be separated into clearly visible layers. Therefore, these rotors are exceptionally suitable for applications such as plasma separation, sedimentation and blood bank processing. Models such as the TX-1000, TX-750, TX-400 and TX-200 offer capacities from 4 x 180 mL up to 4 x 1000 mL for the X and S Series centrifuges. Additionally, there are specialised swing-out rotors such as the TX-150 for the compact C Series, the M10 microplate rotor and the HAEMAFlex series for blood bank processing with the Cryofuge 8 and 16, which process up to 16 blood bags of 550 mL simultaneously.
Fixed-angle rotors hold tubes at a fixed angle, typically between 23° and 45°, and reach higher RCF values than swing-out rotors. Our Fiberlite carbon fiber rotors such as the F14-6×250 LE, F15-6x100y, F10-6×100 LEX and F13-14x50cy combine light weight with excellent corrosion resistance and chemical resistance. Furthermore, for superspeed applications with the Sorvall LYNX 4000 and 6000 we offer the Fiberlite LEX series up to 57,368 x g, ideal for bioprocessing, virology research and large-scale cell pelleting. Moreover, we have compact fixed-angle rotors such as the HIGHConic III, the MicroClick series and the Microliter series for microcentrifuge applications and molecular biology.
Microplate rotors allow you to centrifuge multiple microplates or deep-well plates simultaneously, ideal for high-throughput screening, ELISA protocols and molecular biology. The HIGHPlate 6000 processes up to 10 microplates per run, while the Fiberlite H3-LV reaches up to 28 standard microplates or 8 deep-well plates per run. Additionally, the M-20 offers a compact solution for 6 microplates on the X1 and S1 Series centrifuges.
With brands such as Thermo Scientific and Fiberlite we supply rotors that comply with international standards and that are designed for long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance requirements. For applications in the pharmaceutical industry and biotech and medical diagnostics we offer rotors with biocontainment certification and compliance with relevant regulations. Explore our complete range of swing-out, fixed-angle and microplate rotors below, or contact us for tailored advice on which rotor best suits your Thermo Scientific centrifuge and specific application.
A centrifuge rotor is the rotating part of a centrifuge that holds the samples during spinning. The rotor determines the maximum speed (rpm), the g-force (RCF), the capacity and the type of tubes or bottles you can process. There are three main types: swing-out rotors (swing horizontally), fixed-angle rotors (fixed angle between 23° and 45°) and microplate rotors (for parallel plate processing).
Each Thermo Scientific centrifuge has a specific set of compatible rotors. The TX-1000, TX-750 and BIOShield 1000A fit the X4 and S4 Series, while the TX-150 and MicroClick rotors fit the C Series. For the Sorvall LYNX 4000 and 6000, the Fiberlite F9, F10, F12 and F14 LEX rotors are suitable. Therefore, we always advise personally which rotor best suits your centrifuge and application.
With a swing-out rotor, the buckets swing to a horizontal position during centrifugation, allowing the samples to separate perpendicular to the rotor axis and form clearly visible layers. Therefore, swing-out rotors are ideal for plasma separation and sedimentation. With a fixed-angle rotor, tubes remain at a fixed angle, resulting in higher RCF values and shorter centrifugation times, ideal for pelleting bacteria, cells or nucleic acids.
Biocontainment means that the rotor or bucket can contain aerosols when a tube or bottle breaks during centrifugation. Thermo Scientific offers ClickSeal biocontainment lids for most rotors, certified by Public Health England (Porton Down, UK) or TÜV NORD CERT GmbH. As a result, these rotors are suitable for processing biohazardous samples such as blood products, pathogens or infectious material according to BSL-2 and BSL-3 guidelines.
Auto-Lock rotor exchange is a Thermo Scientific technology that allows you to switch rotors in just three seconds without tools. The rotor locks itself onto the centrifuge axis, increasing both safety and ease of use. Furthermore, the Auto-ID system automatically recognises which rotor is installed and loads the corresponding parameters into the centrifuge, eliminating over-speed risks.
Fiberlite is the carbon fiber rotor brand of Thermo Scientific. Carbon fiber rotors are up to 60% lighter than aluminum rotors, have excellent chemical resistance to aggressive reagents, and reach higher RCF values due to their low mass. In addition, Fiberlite rotors have a longer service life because they do not corrode. Models such as the F14-6×250 LE, F15-6x100y and F21-48×2 are popular for both general purpose centrifuges (X and S Series) and superspeed centrifuges (LYNX).
