The Athena medical barcode scanner reads 1D and 2D codes for fast, reliable registration of medication and medical products. With an antibacterial IP65 housing, wireless operation and more than 100,000 scans per battery charge.
The Athena medical barcode scanner is designed for fast, reliable data capture in healthcare and pharmaceutical environments. From bedside medication administration to stock management in the pharmacy: the scanner reads both 1D and 2D barcodes and makes identification and tracking of medication and medical products efficient and error-free. Athena supplies its medical IT solutions from the Netherlands.
The CMOS image sensor with visible red diode (620 nm) reads the common 1D codes, including Code 128, EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A/E, Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 39 and UCC/EAN-128, and as a 2D barcode scanner also PDF417, QR, Aztec, DataMatrix and Maxicode. The scanner thus covers all codes you encounter in the care chain, including the data matrix codes on medicine packaging.
The scanner supports workflows according to the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD): the European directive that mandates verification of medicines for authenticity. You scan each package in one movement on the 2D data matrix, for safe administration and complete registration.
The robust housing has an antibacterial finish in blue/white and is protected to IP65 against dust and splashing water, suitable for cleaning in clinical environments. The scanner operates wirelessly and performs more than 100,000 scans on one battery charge; recharging in between is rarely needed. Weighing just 166 grams, it stays light in the hand even during prolonged use. Optional mounting solutions integrate the scanner at the workstation or medication cart.
Combine the scanner with an Athena medication trolley and a disinfectable keyboard for a complete registration workflow. Several scanner types and configurations are available; request advice via our contact page.
