SPD130DLX modular vacuum concentrator from Thermo Scientific

The Savant SpeedVac SPD130DLX modular vacuum concentrator from Thermo Scientific is a compact deluxe benchtop concentrator for drying aggressive and volatile solvents. Unlike the SPD120, the SPD130DLX features a heated glass lid with radiant lamps, a built-in digital vacuum gauge and vacuum-based run that automatically stops the cycle at a preset vacuum level. As a result, this model is ideal for combinatorial chemistry and broader solvent applications.

Why choose the SpeedVac SPD130DLX?

  • Firstly, modular setup with free choice of cold trap and vacuum pump
  • Secondly, deluxe execution with heated radiant glass lid
  • Moreover, broader solvent compatibility than the SPD120, including acetone, chloroform, DCM, cyclohexane and petroleum ether
  • In addition, built-in digital vacuum gauge for real-time process monitoring
  • Also, vacuum-based run with automatic stop at preset vacuum level
  • Furthermore, 3 preset programs plus 3 user-defined programs (6 in total)
  • Additionally, temperature range from 35°C to 80°C in 5°C increments
  • Also, vacuum level setting from 20 to 0.1 Torr in 0.1 increments
  • Moreover, compact design of 36 × 46 × 36 cm and 28 kg
  • In addition, USB data export including vacuum values
  • Finally, lid-stay mechanism for hands-free operation

Deluxe execution for combinatorial chemistry

Firstly, the SPD130DLX is specifically developed for combinatorial chemistry and applications with aggressive solvents. Therefore, this model features TEFLON components throughout the entire vapor path and a dual valve manifold that minimizes exposure to solvent vapor. In addition, the dedicated bleed port ensures unidirectional vapor flow. As a result, the SPD130DLX achieves ultimate chemical resistance against aggressive and volatile solvents.

Heated glass lid with radiant lamps

Firstly, the most important difference with the SPD120 is the heated glass lid with radiant lamps. Subsequently, these lamps radiate heat directly onto the samples. As a result, evaporation speed is significantly increased. In addition, you switch the radiant heat on and off manually with the RL On/Off button during a run. However, when processing microplates you deactivate the radiant heat to prevent deformation.

Built-in digital vacuum gauge

Firstly, a second distinguishing feature is the built-in digital vacuum gauge. As a result, you monitor the vacuum level continuously without external measuring equipment. Moreover, the gauge is adjustable from 20 to 0.1 Torr in 0.1 Torr increments. In addition, both Torr and milliTorr units are displayed. Finally, atmospheric pressure is shown as “HPr” for clear status information.

Vacuum-based run for reproducible results

Firstly, the SPD130DLX offers two run types: Time-based and Vacuum-based. With Vacuum-based, the run stops automatically when the preset vacuum level is reached. As a result, you guarantee consistent drying without over- or under-evaporation, regardless of batch variation. Subsequently, results are reproducible for every run. Therefore, this is ideal for GMP and GLP applications.

Modular design for maximum flexibility

Firstly, the SPD130DLX is supplied as a standalone concentrator unit. As a result, you choose which cold trap and which vacuum pump best matches your lab. Moreover, you combine the SPD130DLX with a UVS850DDA Universal Vacuum System for a Semi-Integrated setup with ANT100 post-trap. Alternatively, you pair it with a standalone RVT450 cold trap plus VLP120 vacuum pump, DVG50 vacuum gauge and VPOF110 oil filter for a Component High Vacuum System.

Broad solvent compatibility

Firstly, the SPD130DLX accepts a considerably broader range of solvents than the SPD120. For example, acetone, chloroform, DCM (dichloromethane), cyclohexane, ethyl ether and petroleum ether. In addition, the system works with standard non-aggressive solvents such as water, acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol and ammonium hydroxide. Finally, low concentrations of acid such as 0.1% TFA, 0.1% acetic acid and 1% formic acid are also suitable.

6 programs for flexible workflows

Firstly, the SPD130DLX offers 3 preset programs plus 3 user-defined programs, 6 in total compared to 3 on the SPD120. The preset programs are pre-configured for Water (45°C, vacuum-based at 1.0 Torr), Low Boiling ACN/MEOH (65°C, time-based, 100 mTorr) and HPLC (no heating, time-based, 100 mTorr). Furthermore, the user-defined programs are fully customizable and storable for your own applications.

USB data export with vacuum values

Firstly, the SPD130DLX exports live run data every minute via the USB type A/B port on the rear of the unit. Subsequently, you receive chamber temperature, remaining heat time, run time and vacuum value in CSV format at 115200 baud. As a result, you have more comprehensive data than with the SPD120 for GMP and GLP reporting.

Safety and ease of use

Firstly, the glass lid with safety interlock locks automatically during a run. Consequently, the lid opens only when the rotor has fully stopped. In addition, the SPD130DLX features a lid-stay mechanism that holds the lid in the open position. Finally, an emergency cover release allows sample removal during a power failure.

What’s in the box?

Firstly, the SPD130DLX is available in two configurations. The first is the standalone concentrator unit with TEFLON tubing (1/2″ I.D. × 90 cm). Secondly, the P1 kit with additional accessories for immediate use. In addition, for a complete Component High Vacuum setup you order separately the RVT450 or RVT5105 cold trap, VLP120 vacuum pump, DVG50 vacuum gauge, VPOF110 oil filter and a suitable rotor.

Which laboratories use the SPD130DLX?

Firstly, the SPD130DLX is used in combinatorial chemistry, medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, organic synthesis, life sciences and the pharmaceutical industry. Typical applications include drying organic synthesis products, peptide synthesis, library purification, HPLC fractions with aggressive solvents and residue analysis.
