SPD2030 integrated vacuum concentrator from Thermo Scientific

The Savant SpeedVac SPD2030 integrated vacuum concentrator from Thermo Scientific is a fully integrated high capacity benchtop system. Furthermore, it combines the concentrator, refrigerated cold trap, diaphragm pump and vacuum gauge in a single compact unit. As a result, you process up to 200 samples per run. Moreover, you get all the advantages of a plug-and-play system without external tubing or components.

Why choose the SpeedVac SPD2030?

  • Firstly, a fully integrated high capacity system: concentrator, refrigerated cold trap, oil-free diaphragm pump and vacuum gauge in one housing
  • Secondly, high capacity for 200 × 1.5 mL microtubes per run
  • In addition, it fits in a standard laboratory fume hood
  • Moreover, maximum vacuum of less than 10 Torr (13 mbar) for fast evaporation
  • Also, temperature range from 35°C to 80°C in 5°C increments
  • Furthermore, 3 preset programs + 3 user-defined programs with adjustable ramp rate and vacuum level
  • Additionally, compatible with PRO-rotor upgrade kits (PRO-10, PRO-20 and PRO-50) for microplate applications
  • Finally, USB data export for traceability and quality reporting

High capacity for larger sample series

Firstly, the SPD2030 processes up to 200 × 1.5-2.0 mL microtubes per run with the RH200-12 rotor. In addition, the system accepts 8 × 250 mL centrifuge bottles. Moreover, you can use 192 × 1-dram glass vials, 48 × 50 mL conical tubes, or even 12 × shallow well microplates with the right rotor. As a result, the SPD2030 is the logical choice for laboratories processing larger series. Furthermore, you get this capacity without compromising on the integrated plug-and-play experience.

Fully integrated system without external components

Unlike modular SpeedVacs, the SPD2030 requires no setup or connections. Firstly, the concentrator, refrigerated cold trap, oil-free PTFE diaphragm pump and vacuum gauge are all housed in a single unit. Consequently, there is no need to install tubing. In addition, you avoid calibrating components or troubleshooting leaks. Furthermore, every system is factory-tested for vacuum integrity before it reaches your lab.

Oil-free vacuum pump for low-maintenance operation

Firstly, the built-in oil-free PTFE diaphragm pump (2-headed, 30 L/min @ 50 Hz) delivers an ultimate vacuum level of less than 10 Torr (13 mbar, 1.3 kPa). Because no pump oil is required, maintenance tasks are eliminated. For example, you skip oil changes, oil filters and oil mist eliminator replacement. In addition, vacuum ramping and pressure control prevent sample bumping at the start of the cycle.

Designed for aqueous and non-aggressive solvents

The SPD2030 is designed for aqueous and non-aggressive organic solvents. Typical solvents include water, ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, acetonitrile and buffers. Therefore, the instrument is ideal for DNA and RNA precipitates and PCR sample preparation. In addition, it handles oligonucleotide synthesis, protein and peptide concentration, HPLC fractions and metabolite research. However, for aggressive solvents such as DMSO, methylene chloride, TFA or strong acids and bases, you should choose a modular high capacity system such as the SPD300DDA.

Expandable with PRO-rotor upgrade kits

A distinguishing feature of the SPD2030 is its compatibility with PRO-rotor upgrade kits. Firstly, the PRO-10 includes 4 single-shelf carriers. Secondly, the PRO-20 has 4 two-shelf carriers for microplates. Thirdly, the PRO-50 has 4 five-shelf carriers for shallow well microplates. As a result, you significantly expand capacity and flexibility. Moreover, you upgrade the SPD2030 to a microplate system without purchasing a new instrument.

Intuitive control with preset and user-defined programs

Firstly, the bright digital control panel offers 3 preset programs and 3 user-defined programs. Per program, you set the temperature, run time, heat time, ramp rate (1 to 5) and vacuum level (30 to 5.1 Torr in 0.1 Torr increments) separately. In addition, two independent timers for heat and run cycle provide full control over the process. Subsequently, you save your settings for reproducible results. Finally, you download live run data via the USB port.

Safety and ease of use

Firstly, the radiant glass cover with soft-close mechanism and lid lock indicator visually confirms that the instrument is securely closed before the run starts. In addition, the pre-heat button allows you to bring the chamber up to temperature before loading samples. Moreover, the radiant lamp above the lid accelerates evaporation. As a result, condensation on the cover is prevented.

What’s in the box?

The SPD2030 is available in three configurations. Firstly, as a standalone unit. Secondly, as a kit with flask cover (SPD2030A). Thirdly, as a complete starter kit with rotor and CryoCool (SPD2030P1). This way, you choose the configuration that matches your application and budget. In addition, PRO-rotor upgrade kits and additional rotors are available separately.

Which laboratories use the SPD2030?

Firstly, the SPD2030 is used in life sciences, biotech, molecular biology, proteomics, drug discovery and the pharmaceutical industry. Typical applications include high-throughput DNA/RNA precipitation and large-batch PCR preparation. In addition, the system handles protein and peptide concentration after HPLC, plus metabolite research. Would you like advice on the right SpeedVac for your application?
