Description

Tube furnace controller for Lindberg Blue M 1200 °C split-hinge models

The Thermo Scientific Lindberg Blue M 1200 °C tube furnace controller is a fully wired control module with advanced microprocessor-based digital control, designed for use with Lindberg Blue M 1200 °C split-hinge tube furnaces. As a result, this independent architecture provides flexible installation: the controller can be positioned next to the tube furnace, or remote for applications in fume hoods or containment areas. Specifically, each model features a solid state power module, ON/OFF circuit breaker, and thermocouple input jacks per zone. Furthermore, twelve models are available depending on the type of tube furnace, control complexity, and required options.

Important: this controller pairs with a tube furnace

Specifically, this product is a separate control module, not a complete tube furnace. As a result, the unit requires a matching Lindberg Blue M 1200 °C split-hinge tube furnace to function. Furthermore, the controller must be precisely matched to the tube furnace type: single zone models work with the CC58114 series, while three zone models require the CC58434 or CC584343 series. In addition, the interconnecting wiring between controller and tube furnace is ordered separately.

Three levels of control complexity

Specifically, you choose from three levels of control complexity:

  • Single program 8 segments (base models): Digital single program with 8 segments plus additional dwell timer, delay timer, or soft start timer. Suited for applications with one structured thermal profile.
  • 5 programs, 16 segments (PB models): Digital 5-program with 16 segments per program, including OTC over-temperature control as backup. As a result, you can store and recall up to five different thermal profiles.
  • Independent three zone (CC584343 series): Three fully independent programmable controllers, one per zone. Furthermore, you can run a different thermal profile in each zone, suited for more complex applications such as chemical vapor deposition and diffusion processes.

Single zone versus three zone controllers

Specifically, the tube furnace type determines which controller fits:

  • CC58114 series (single zone): Suited for HTF55322A, HTF55322C, and HTF55342C tube furnaces. Notably, the controller manages one heating zone. Furthermore, this series carries 30 A current (120V or 208/240V depending on model).
  • CC58434 series (three zone, mimic mode): Suited for HTF55347C and HTF55667C tube furnaces. In this setup, the center zone is operated by a programmable controller, while the end zones follow the center zone at an adjustable deviation. Moreover, maximum ± 50 °C difference between center zone and end zones applies.
  • CC584343 series (three zone, independent): Also suited for HTF55347C and HTF55667C, but with fully independent control. Specifically, each zone has its own programmable controller. As a result, you can run different temperature profiles in each zone.

Furthermore, both three zone series carry 70 A current at 208/240V, required for the higher power of three zone tube furnaces.

OTC over-temperature control (B models)

Specifically, models with “B” or “PB” in the suffix feature OTC (over-temperature control). As a result, OTC acts as a backup to the main controller: an independent thermocouple and secondary control module can override the main controller and shut off power when the high limit is reached. Furthermore, OTC requires manual reset after an event, which prevents unintended restart. Notably, OTC operates via magnetic contact, driven by an independent thermocouple.

Optional RS-485 communications (COMC and COMA suffix)

Moreover, models with “COMC” or “COMA” in the suffix feature an RS-485 communications port. Specifically, this port provides two-way communications between controller and remote computer, suited for remote monitoring and data logging. As a result, you can connect up to 30 controllers to a single PC. Furthermore, the port has 9-pin connections. In addition, Thermo Fisher does not provide software or software support: recommended suppliers are Eurotherm (itools software) and SpecView.

Compatibility with tube furnace models

Specifically, the combination of tube furnace and controller determines which SKU fits your setup:

  • HTF55322A: CC58114A-1, CC58114PBA-1, or CC58114PBCOMA-1 (120V US-spec)
  • HTF55322C or HTF55342C: CC58114C-1, CC58114PBC-1, or CC58114PBCOMC-1 (208/240V)
  • HTF55347C or HTF55667C: CC58434BC-1, CC58434BCOMC-1, CC58434PBC-1, CC58434PBCOMC-1, CC584343PBC-1, or CC584343PBCOMC-1 (208/240V)

Construction and standard components

Each tube furnace controller ships with a fully wired control console featuring advanced microprocessor-based digital control, solid state power module, ON/OFF circuit breaker, and thermocouple input jacks per zone (one for single zone models, three for three zone models). As a result, the controller is immediately ready for installation. However, a power cord, hardwiring, and interconnecting wiring to the tube furnace are not included. Specifically, these must be ordered separately, plus installation by a qualified technician.

Note: this controller only works in combination with a matching Lindberg Blue M 1200 °C split-hinge tube furnace. Specifically, first determine the correct tube furnace, then choose the matching controller based on control complexity and required options.

Does this controller work as a standalone tube furnace?

No, this product is a separate control module, not a complete tube furnace. Specifically, the controller requires a matching Lindberg Blue M 1200 °C split-hinge tube furnace to function. As a result, you order the controller alongside your tube furnace, or as an upgrade to an existing system. Furthermore, you must choose the correct model based on the type of tube furnace (single zone or three zone) and voltage (120V or 208/240V).

Which controller fits which tube furnace?

Specifically, the tube furnace model determines which controller fits. For HTF55322A you need a 120V single zone controller (CC58114A series). By contrast, HTF55322C and HTF55342C work with 208/240V single zone controllers (CC58114C series). Furthermore, HTF55347C and HTF55667C require a three zone controller, available in mimic mode (CC58434 series) or fully independent control (CC584343 series). In addition, your process determines the control complexity: single program 8 segments or programmable 5 programs 16 segments.

What is the difference between mimic mode and independent control on three zone models?

In mimic mode (CC58434 series), the center zone is driven by a programmable controller, while the end zones follow the center zone at an adjustable deviation of maximum ± 50 °C. By contrast, in independent control (CC584343 series), each zone has its own programmable controller. As a result, mimic mode lets you easily set a gradient around the center zone, while independent control offers complete freedom to run fully different profiles per zone.

What does the OTC backup protection do?

OTC (over-temperature control) is available on models with “B” or “PB” in the suffix. Specifically, OTC adds a second independent thermocouple and secondary control module that can override the main controller when the high limit is exceeded. As a result, OTC provides a backup protection layer, even when the main controller fails itself. Furthermore, OTC requires manual reset after an event, which prevents unintended restart.

What is required for installation?

For installation, in addition to the controller itself, you need: a power cord, interconnecting wiring to the tube furnace, plus hardwiring to the electrical installation. Specifically, these components are not included and must be ordered separately. As a result, installation by a qualified technician is required, especially due to the high current ratings: 30 A for single zone controllers and 70 A for three zone controllers.
