Moldatherm box furnace with patented insulation and four capacities

The Thermo Scientific Lindberg Blue M Moldatherm box furnace is designed for industrial laboratories handling diverse sample volumes up to 1100 °C. As a result, this model is available in four capacities: 2 liter, 5.3 liter, 18.4 liter, and 42.5 liter. Specifically, each model combines patented Moldatherm ceramic fiber insulation with self-tuning PID control, delivering fast heatup without temperature overshoot. Furthermore, this configuration provides uniformity of ± 2.0 °C at 1100 °C across the entire range.

Patented Moldatherm insulation

The unique feature of this line is the Moldatherm insulation, a ceramic fiber composite with rapid heatup and cooldown properties. Specifically, the furnace can run continuously at its maximum temperature without damaging the insulation. As a result, this furnace type suits production environments with intensive use cycles. Furthermore, the unique insulation and heating element composites minimize the outer surface temperature, increasing operator safety.

Four capacities for different sample volumes

Specifically, you choose the capacity depending on your application:

• 2 liter (BF51748C-1, BF51848C-1, BF51848COMC-1): For small samples and routine analyses. Internal chamber 10.2 × 10.2 × 20.3 cm, external dimensions 50.8 × 38.1 × 44.4 cm, weight 24.9 kg.
• 5.3 liter (BF51766C-1, BF51866C-1, BF51866COMC-1): For mid-sized samples or multiple crucibles. Internal chamber 22.9 × 15.2 × 15.2 cm, external dimensions 53.3 × 43.1 × 54.6 cm, weight 50 kg.
• 18.4 liter (BF51794C-1, BF51894C-1, BF51894COMC-1): For larger samples or higher throughput. Internal chamber 35.6 × 22.9 × 22.9 cm, external dimensions 65.4 × 53.3 × 66 cm, weight 59 kg.
• 42.5 liter (BF51728C-1, BF51828C-1, BF51828COMC-1): For large-scale applications and pilot plants. Internal chamber 45.7 × 30.5 × 30.5 cm, external dimensions 76.2 × 60.9 × 71.1 cm, weight 84 kg. Notably, this model requires hardwiring by a technician.

Two controller choices per capacity

Furthermore, each capacity offers a choice of two PID microprocessor controllers, both with adjustable high-limit OTP:

• Single program controller (suffix C-1): Digital single program control with 8 segments and an additional dwell timer, delay timer, or soft start timer. Specifically suited for applications with one structured thermal profile.
• Programmable controller (suffix 8C-1): Digital 5-program control with 16 segments per program. As a result, you can store and recall up to five different thermal profiles. In addition, it is also available with an RS-485 communications port (suffix COMC-1) for remote monitoring and data logging from a PC.

Specifically, this Moldatherm box furnace is used in industrial laboratories and production environments for a wide range of thermal processes. Common applications include:

Inert atmosphere option

Furthermore, each model features an air vent on top (2.54 cm diameter) and an air inlet at the rear (0.95 cm diameter), enabling gas exchange with an inert atmosphere. Specifically, there is one important limitation: the door is not gas-tight. As a result, some leakage will occur when using inert gas, which is acceptable for many routine applications but not suited for processes requiring hermetic sealing.

Safety and operation

Moreover, this box furnace features multiple standard safety functions. Specifically, the door switch interrupts power to the heating element when the door opens, protecting both the element and the operator. Furthermore, self-tuning PID control prevents temperature overshoot during heatup. Notably, adjustable high-limit OTP provides an additional layer of overheating protection. In addition, the LED display simultaneously shows actual temperature and setpoint, in either °C or °F. Specifically, the unit features a main power ON/OFF switch on the control panel for straightforward operation.

Standard accessories

Each Moldatherm box furnace ships with a long-life Type K thermocouple, a removable and replaceable Moldatherm hearth plate, and a power cord (except for the 42.5 liter model that requires hardwiring). As a result, the Moldatherm hearth plate protects the chamber bottom from damage caused by spilled samples and can be easily replaced if it wears.

Note: the 42.5 liter model (BF51728C-1, BF51828C-1, BF51828COMC-1) requires hardwiring by a qualified technician and ships without plug and power cord.
