The same work chair feels and performs completely differently with a different upholstery. Waterproof or breathable, seamless or woven, white or sixteen colours: the covering determines how hygienic, comfortable and durable the chair is in your environment. In this article we compare the Score upholsteries and give advice per environment.

Stamskin: 100% waterproof for medical rooms

Stamskin TOP is a high-quality synthetic leather on a polyamide jersey backing. The material is 100% waterproof and wipeable, and withstands disinfection with alcohol, chlorine and hydrogen peroxide, among others. Urine, blood and sweat do not penetrate the material, and an antifungal additive keeps the surface hygienic. With a wear resistance of 120,000 Martindale rubs and sixteen standard colours, Stamskin is the choice for medical, dental and veterinary workstations.

PUxx: seamless and phthalate-free

PUxx is a polyurethane covering, free from phthalates and PVC and OEKO-TEX certified. The surface is seamless and therefore easy to clean. PUxx comes in three colours (black, dark blue and grey) and is the sleeker, functional alternative next to Stamskin on the Medical and saddle stool ranges, among others.

Trevira, Flex and Blend: breathable comfort

For workstations where comfort comes first, there are three woven fabrics of Trevira CS polyester, a flame-retardant yarn. Trevira (340 g/m²) is the sturdy base fabric in six colours. Flex (300 g/m²) is more elastic and follows the seat smoothly, also in six colours. Blend (420 g/m²) is the mottled, more luxurious fabric in five colours for office chairs. Woven fabrics breathe and therefore sit most comfortably during long office days.

Cast PU and beech: for industry and lab

Not an upholstery but a seat: cast polyurethane is the industry standard for work chairs such as the Spirit and Pro. The material is extremely wear-resistant, easy to clean and resistant to most chemicals. Solid beech wood is the traditional alternative on stools such as the Opti: robust and timeless.

ESD upholsteries for the EPA

For static-sensitive environments there are antistatic variants: black PU ESD (cast), ESD Dralon (woven) and ESD Leatherette. These dissipate static charge in a controlled way. Read more in our knowledge base article on ESD chairs.

Guide per environment

Medical, dental or veterinary: Stamskin or PUxx, both disinfectable. Laboratory and industry: cast PU, or Stamskin where hygiene weighs heavier. Office and control room: Trevira, Flex or Blend for breathable comfort. EPA zones: one of the ESD variants. On every product page you choose the upholstery and, via our colour configurator, the colour. See the complete chair range or request advice via our contact page.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Stamskin?

Stamskin TOP is a 100% waterproof synthetic leather on polyamide jersey, resistant to disinfectants and tested at 120,000 Martindale rubs. It is the standard choice for medical chairs.

May I disinfect Stamskin with alcohol or chlorine?

Yes. Stamskin withstands common disinfectants including alcohol, chlorine and hydrogen peroxide, and wipes clean with water and soap.

How many colours does Stamskin come in?

There are sixteen standard colours, from Black and Dark Blue to Dutch Orange. Additional colours are available on request. On the product pages you choose the colour via the configurator.

What is the difference between PUxx and cast PU?

PUxx is a thin polyurethane covering over an upholstered seat: soft and seamless. Cast PU is the seat itself, in one piece: harder, extremely wear-resistant and maximally chemical-resistant.

Which upholstery breathes best?

The woven fabrics: Trevira, Flex and Blend. They let air and moisture through and therefore sit coolest during long office days.
